Troy McClain: The Apprentice Season 1 Contestant

GREENLIGHT LONG ISLAND INTERVIEW
by Derek Grosso

TROY MCCLAINWhere are you located and what are you currently working on?
After the show I was offered to move anywhere from Australia to Alaska, but I chose to stay right where I am living today, Boise, Idaho. I continue to run my little mortgage company and I have done over 100 public speaking events all over the country. Most recently I shared the stage with Dr. Phil at an event in Las Vegas, Nevada. I am working on a new show, which will air September 26, called "Home Team." In it, I travel the country and find deserving families or individuals trying to buy their first home. We surprise them by giving them the down payment and we also pay the first year's mortgage in advance. It's a great concept of giving back. I'm so happy to be involved with a show that that has a cause behind it. You can check it out at www.hometeam.com.

If you had been hired as The Apprentice, how would that have made your life different?
I think for sure I would have had to move to the big city, but I am not sure I would have had to work harder than I am working now. I think I would have had one thing to work hard on -- learning the job. I may have had to change the way I dress. And I am sure I would have had to lose the jeans and boots and trade them in for a tie and suit! I am happy the way things ended up and Trump made the best choice.

What did you think of your first trip to New York?
Before the show I had never been to NYC or anywhere else back east and during the show we really had no time to visit or see things. Mr. Trump did reward Heidi and I with a ride in his helicopter one time on the show. That made it all worth it because for the first time in my life I got to see the "pretty Lady Liberty." It was amazing!

Have you ever been to Long Island? Please tell us about any experiences there as well.
I have been so busy I have not yet taken time to really look around. I hope one day I really get a chance to visit Long Island and Manhattan the way it is meant to be visited. If you know anyone who is a great tour guide let me know!

How often do you speak with Mr. Trump or the other candidates?
Mr. Trump and his staff have been more then amazing to me and my family. They always treat us with respect and take my calls. I know the door is always open, but I think Mr. Trump and his staff are more impressed that I do it on my own. And I would be honored to say I got help from anyone involved in the Trump Organization and I hope they feel the same. In addition, I always talk to my life-long friend, Kwame. He can always count on me if he needs anything.

Tell us about The Apprentice Cruise.
How great is this! I get to go on a cruise that is dedicated to the cast members of "The Apprentice." All my life there have been so many things I wanted to do and never thought I would be able to do them. Now after the show, I get to do all kinds of things like the cruise. It starts September 26 and we return October 4. It's going to be eight days of fun and excitement! Heck it's going to be my wife and my first cruise!

What is your favorite restaurant?
Every restaurant I have ever eaten at in NYC has been great and I look forward to eating at them all again and to finding more great places to eat. I am open to any recommendations.

Favorite city?
I have been all over the country and at the end of the day I love to visit NYC but my favorite city is good ol' Boise Idaho!

Favorite word?
I am not sure I can say it, and I am for sure my Mama would smack me for saying it. So I will leave it blank for now.

Favorite TV show?
I don’t get to watch a lot of TV but when I do, I love "Law and Order."

Favorite personal quote?
"Looking up the ass of a dead dog with fleas!"
