"A Day to Eat Dinner With Your Children"
Written by Lia Soscia for Greenlight Long Island Magazine
Monday, September 26 is "Family Day," a day to eat dinner with your children created in 2001 by CASA (The National Center on Substance Abuse and Addiction at Columbia University) as a national effort to promote family dinners and parental engagement as a simple, effective way to reduce substance abuse among teens and raise healthier kids.
Family Day emphasizes the importance of regular family activities in parent-child communications and encourages Americans to make family dinners a regular feature of their lives. Frequently eating dinner with your children has been shown to significantly reduce the risk of substance abuse in half! Isn't it worth a try?
I encourage all families on Long Island to take part in this national dinner event. Understandably, not every family has time to cook a meal at dinner time. So, just this once, I will overlook any of you that decide to participate with a take out or restaurant meal. In this case, any meal counts as long as you spend it with your family!
If you would like more information about this great family activity, please click here. And, for those of you brave enough, take the TVLand family table challenge.
Bon Appetit!
