The First Annual Hamptons Wine & Food Festival
The First Annual Hamptons Wine & Food Festival will take place on Friday, August 26 and Saturday, August 27, from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. at The Hayground School in Bridgehampton. The event will include live cooking demonstrations, extensive wine seminars, a themed Grand Tasting each night, book signings, displays of the latest and greatest cooking gadgets and high end appliances and will feature local and internationally acclaimed celebrity chefs and winemakers.
Internationally acclaimed chefs such as Alfred Portale (Gotham Bar & Grill), Michael Romano (Union Square Cafe), Michael Lomonaco (Guastavino), Rick Moonen (RM), Waldy Malouf (Beacon), David Burke (David Burke & Donatella), Floyd Cardoz (Tabla) and Food Network's VP Culinary Production, Susan Stockton will host live cooking demos on the main stage.
Distinguished wine experts and retailers such as Joshua Wesson (Bestsellers Wine), Michael Greenlee (Gotham Bar & Grill), Michael Cinque (Amagansett Wines) and Giselle Deiaco (Rainbow Room’s Open Wine School) will be hosting seminars and discussions. Other significant experts include restaurateur Joe Bastianich (Italian Wine Merchants) and lecturer Steve Olsen (aka "Wine Geek"). Cinque will be hosting a discussion with Louisa Hargrave and Marco Bourgese on the past and future of Long Island wines.
The festival will celebrate the rich agricultural heritage of the Hamptons region by spotlighting a selection of multi-generational farms alongside the first East end winery that began harvesting its grapes over 30 years ago, paving the way for a local wine industry to rise and flourish. Weekend special events include VIP sponsor champagne Sunday brunch at a prestigious vineyard, an oceanfront estate caviar and cocktail party, VIP closing party and a festive, multi-bar Mojito BBQ after-party with a unique Bentley Tailgate Party featuring a brand new $400,000 Flying Spur.
Donations from a unique charity auction will be made to Make-A-Wish Foundation. Promoted as Celebrity Make-A-Dish, well-known figures in fashion, music and entertainment will decorate one-of-a-kind aprons throughout the event. In addition, Hamptons Wine & Food Festival will help fund the completion of Hayground School’s newest facility for learning through food preparation, the Jeff Salaway Culinary Center ("Jeff's Kitchen"). Founded in 1996 by the late Jeff Salaway and his wife Toni Ross (of the highly acclaimed Nick & Toni's restaurants), The Hayground School, a non-profit educational institution, is a creative and innovative experience for young multi-cultural students.
The organizers of the event are Jodi Della Femina, Stuart Racey and Jerry Romano. Femina has authored several best-selling cooking guidebooks and is founder of the award-winning Southampton and East Hampton Independent newspapers. Racey specializes in the development and sponsorship representation of entertainment properties. Romano is the long standing Executive Producer of the New York Emmy Awards and holds two decades of television production expertise including Food Network, CBS, MTV and HBO's "Curb Your Enthusiasm."
Local talent has been tapped for a Hampton’s chef competition. Look for chefs Joe Realmuto (Nick & Toni's), Kevin Penner (1770 House), Michael Castino (Pacific East), Jason Weiner (Almond and Almondito), Mike Rozzi (Della Femina), Andrew Engle (The Laundry), Todd Jacobs (Tierra Mar), Jeff Harter (Alison) and Julio Quisbert (Jean-Luc, JLX Bistro and Madame Tong's) to participate in the cook-off.
