"Armed" for a Crown: Arm Wrestling Championships at Rockaway Beach
The 28th Annual Queensboro Open Arm Wrestling Championships will be held on Sunday, August 14, at 116th Street & Rockaway Beach. Weigh-in and registration begins on the boardwalk at 10:00 a.m., commencement is 12:30 p.m. and final matches start at 3:00 p.m. There are no residency requirements. Entry fee is $10 for NYAWA members and $15 for non-members, with free admission for non-competitors. The event is in cooperation with The City of New York Parks & Recreation.
The championships will feature nine weight classes for men (two left handed) a 45+ year-old category and two classes for women. Awards will be given for first, second and third place, with winners invited to the Empire State Finals at the Port Authority Bus Terminal on November 17.
"The Queensboro is the oldest and most popular event of the Golden Arm Series, because it and always draws a big turnout with tough competition." said Gene Camp. Founder and President of the 28-year-old New York Arm Wrestling Association (NYAWA). "Arm wrestling is a crowd-pleasing contact sport for anyone who wants to compete one-on-one in his or her own weight class. It also provides an opportunity to display arm strength, determination and exclusive bragging rights," Camp added.
