Donna McKechnie's "Gypsy In My Soul" Coming to Port Washington
Multi-talented singer, dancer and actress Donna McKechnie will bring her new cabaret act, "Gypsy in My Soul" to The Jeanne Rimsky Theater in Port Washington on Saturday, May 7 at 8:00 p.m. The show recently made its New York premiere (it plays through May 1 at Au Bar in Manhattan) and received kudos from The New York Times.
"With her bright, friendly voice, frisky body language and arsenal of backstage anecdotes, she is a performer without pretensions," praised New York Times Theater Writer, Stephen Holden.
Equating McKechnie's talents to the legendary Chita Rivera and Gwen Verdon, Holden's comments echoed those of colleagues nation-wide who had nothing but praise for the Tony Award winning performer. Highlights from the show include the show's title song, "Lot of Livin' to Do" (from "Bye Bye Birdie") and "Turkey Lurkey Time" (from "Promises, Promises"), in addition to the showstoppers "Some People" (from "Gypsy") and "Music and the Mirror" (from "A Chorus Line").
The Jeanne Rimsky Theater at Landmark on Main Street is located at 232 Main Street in Port Washington. The theater is an intimate venue within blocks of Port Washington's harbor.
"Gypsy in My Soul" is sponsored by Dot and Ed Slade and Janet and Larry Tietz.
Tickets for the show start at $25. For more information, call Landmark at (516) 767-6444 or visit www.landmarkonmainstreet.org.
